Even in the midst of great pain, we can still smile... and, perhaps soon, we will laugh. These humorous sayings all have a kernel of wisdom.

This is one of my favorite sayings.
AFGO
(We pronounce it "aghfgo.")
It is from Judity Viorst's very witty novel, Murdering Mr. Monte. In the novel, Viorst mentioned a support group attended by a number of divorced women who are pretty angry.
They named the support group, AFGO, for "Another F*#%ing Growth Opportunity." It's a very apt description of some of the challenges we face when healing from a significant loss - and is a great shorthand comment to make to friends when they ask how things are going.
Author and poet,
Judith Viorst. Besides Murdering Mr. Monte and many other books, she wrote: Necessary Losses: The Loves, Illusions, Dependencies, and Impossible Expectations That All of Us Have to Give Up in Order to Grow
An old Yiddish saying:
Man Plans. God laughs.
